Duval County School Board voted to do away with paddling at school.
Tuesday, Duval County became the 25th Florida county to ban spankings in schools. Some parents support the school board's decision because they say spanking is archaic and doesn't help behavior problems; but others say they don't mind a school official spanking their children.
Statistics show that in 2005, 75% of students paddled in Duval County were African-American.
One school official said the origins of paddling lead back to slavery. The new policy goes into effect in the fall.
