Cop gets 45 days for spanking child LODI -- A Stockton police officer has been sentenced to 45 days in jail for excessively spanking his 6-year-old daughter.

A San Joaquin County judge said Jared L. Moore's occupation was "immaterial" to his decision.

"Inwardly, I was at a different number," Judge Robert F. Baysinger said Monday. "I can live with the 45 days, although typically that sentence would apply to a lesser incident."

Moore, 33, pleaded no contest in March to the misdemeanor child abuse charge.

An emergency room doctor called authorities after seeing severe bruises across Moore's daughter's buttocks during a weekend visit at the officer's Lodi home in November.

Moore and the child's mother are divorced.

Moore was placed on paid administrative leave on Monday, Deputy Chief Wayne Hose said. His future as a police officer depends on an internal investigation, Hose said.

Moore will be eligible to serve his 45-day sentence through alternative programs, such as home monitoring, because of jail overcrowding, the judge said.

The officer also will serve three years' probation and be required to attend counseling for a year. Moore could have been sentenced to up to a year in jail.
